Our Trip to the Isle of Man

April 19, 2018

A group of 16 comprised of choir members and supporters spent 5 days on the Isle of Man on a walking holiday organised by Mike, this is the third holiday he has organised in the last year, so thank you very much from everyone who went.

We stayed in Douglas which was very handy for buses taking us all over the island.

Mike had found us a guide for the walks (Marinda), who plays in a band that he has conducted in the past.  She was a lovely lady who, because she was a native of the island, knew all the walks and was able to tell us the history of where we were. On the Saturday we walked through Groundle Glen, and saw the famous Groundle Glen Railway, another day we walked from Tynwald Hill at St. Johns, where the original Manx parliament met and still do meet outdoors every July 5th and then along an old railway line foootpath to Peel, before catching the bus home.  We also had a lovely, but very windy, coastal walk to Castletown and on Tuesday we caught a bus to Laxey,  saw the famous Laxey Wheel before walking out to the coast for lunch.  Unfortuantely. the sea was so rough we were unable to get onto the promenade due to the high waves so returned  to the bus route by another path.  On Tuesday night Mike had booked a minibus to take us to Ramsey where we had a meal in a restaurant and then a visit to some of his friends in their band rehearsal.

Wednesday during the day we had free time until it was time to return to the airport for our fllight home.

It was a lovely holiday and everyone  thoroughly enjoyed it.
