The Walk This Way Choir was an initial idea by Mike Cotter in April of 2016, and was triggered by the famous Gareth Malone TV series. By May the choir had been formed with the help of a group of enthusiastic people and a number of 30 or so of the re:fresh Walk This Way walking group initiative. We have had very humble beginnings and started with nothing, and have progressed with grants of £600 from The Leach Trust and £500 from the Crown Paints company. The grants were awarded to purchase music which in today’s climate is a very expensive item. We have also recently been awarded £1300 from the Harold and Alice Bridges Charity to whom we are truly grateful. This grant was awarded towards the purchase of new sound equipment.
The choir are extremely fortunate to be able to hire Spring Vale Methodist Church, for rehearsals, and the covering of the weekly hire is paid through weekly subscriptions from the members of the choir. We practice at the Church every Friday from 7-9pm. Being in the choir is beneficial for well being both mentally and physically, and you would be also welcomed to join our weekly walking programme with the Walk This Way walking group should you so wish...believe me it is a wonderful form of exercise amongst a great group of people. The objects and aims of the choir are to further the standards and the repertoire of the choir in a friendly, sociable and enjoyable environment. We are also determined to improve week by week, and are very fortunate to have the added talents of our MD Therese Kearton to whom we are truly grateful for being able to improve and progress from her wealth of knowledge within this field. We are looking forward to a very enjoyable and successful future.
